In 2001 Ed & Dennis LaCharite partnered together to campaign the family owned Back in Black
1969 Corvette alcohol Funny Car in the California Independent Funny Car Association
championship series. The car was by Victory Race Cars and was named after the famous rock
and roll band which reminds us of our second chances in life. The primary purpose...have fun!
The LaCharite family ran the car for 3 years in CIFCA with Dennis behind the wheel winning the
2002 Pro-Nitro Blown Bad Boy Championship, CIFCA's 2002 "Rookie-of-the-Year" and
finishing 2nd in the 2002 C.I.F.C.A. Championship. In 2004 the team took home the CIFCA
Championship & Good Vibes Best Package Award.
2004 also brought about major changes in the program...the team was ready for more speed and
a new body! The following year Back in Black was put on Nitro. Right out of the box the team
became the 2nd quickest car under Goodguys V.R.A. Rules running a 6.09 at 241 mph. 2007 the
LaCharite's and their fearless crew took home the 2007 Hot Rod Reunion win from Columbus,
Ohio running the all new GTO body.
The new GTO body, built out of carbon fiber by the Back in Black team, was ready for a chassis
update in late 2008. The crew called on the expert help of Neil & Parks. Dennis LaCharite and
crew debuted their new Neal & Parks chassis at the 2009 March Meet. Back in Black ran a
6.108 E.T.at 238.15 mph to edge out 16 other nitro Funny Car competitors qualifying in the
"Silver" field number 5 spot. The strong performance in Bakersfield was then followed up by a
heads up run with a Jet Car in Sacramento. The unlikely pair of drag racing competitors made a
spectacular showing of bravado and showmanship to a packed house of thousands.
Back in Black continues to charge down the drag strip wowing spectators and nitro enthusiasts
throughout the United States. Don't miss your chance to see this team rocket down the quarter
